Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

From 13 to 14 March 2021 I will be swimming with the team Slippery Seals for 24 hours to raise funds for services that minimise the impact of multiple sclerosis on people’s life.

A few years ago, when I had just moved to Wollongong, I went to cheer on my friend whose team was partaking in the MegaSwim. I was impressed by the happy and relaxed atmosphere of the event and moreover, overwhelmed by the effort of organisation, volunteers, swimming team, including people who are living with MS.

Having seen how difficult living with MS can be in societies where disease is not easily discussed and where people don’t understand and don’t to talk about it, it was refreshing to be at an event that aims to overcome such barriers.

Since then, despite not being a trained or fast swimmer, I have been partaking in the Wollongong MegaSwim.

I am proud that we live in a society where disease is not a taboo, in which many people commit to helping others and where people are determined to live their lives normally despite being diagnosed with MS. To me the MS MegaSwim is not just a way to raise funds for specific support services; it represents and celebrates the courage and power of people living with any disease or other complications in life, and the culture of helping each other unconditionally.

Funds raised will allow people living with MS to access support services, such as MS Peer Support, connecting people who are newly diagnosed with those who have lived with multiple sclerosis for a number of years, or the MS Employment Support program keeping people living with multiple sclerosis in the work force.

If you would like to contribute to this cause as well, we appreciate support in the form of donations to our team, cheering audiences and spreading the word about the amazing work that Multiple Sclerosis Limited does to support people living with MS, while research on treatments and cures continues.
