I'M TAKING THE CHALLENGE TO FIGHT MS!
As many of you know, last year I spent 9 months with multiple ruptured and bulging spinal discs. I was misdiagnosed multiple times, was unable to walk and for the month of August spent the entire time working from home, mainly out of my bed laying down.
It finally lead to me having spinal surgery in September last year, and since then I have been on a recovery path to strengthen and support my spine and back.
This weekend marks the 6 month mark of my recovery, and as both a challenge to myself and to also raise money for a great cause, I will be participating in the MS Mega Swim.
This is a swim that takes place much like a relay, that will raise much needed funds for people living with multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic and often debilitating disease which attacks the central nervous system (the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves). It is the most common neurological disease in young adults and often attacks people at the time of their lives when they are planning families and building a career.
The average age of diagnosis is between 20 and 40 years of age, although symptoms may begin much earlier, and three out of four people living with multiple sclerosis are women.
For instance, can you imagine waking up one day unable to do the everyday things you would usually take for granted? Like not being able to see properly (or at all), you physically can’t get out of bed, can’t walk to the phone to call someone – anyone – or live a life without pain?
All of a sudden your world has changed.
By being part of this event, and because of your generous sponsorship, the funds we raise will allow people living with multiple sclerosis to access vital MS Support Services. Services such as MS Peer Support, connecting people who are newly diagnosed with those who have lived with multiple sclerosis for a number of years, or the MS Employment Support program keeping Aussies living with multiple sclerosis in the work force.
Thank you again for your support!
