2022 Fitzroy MS Mega Swim

Aside from looking forward to joining others in the fun and atmosphere on the day, I’m taking part to raise funds to support people living with multiple sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis affects more young people than any other chronic neurological condition and average age of diagnosis is 30. It can strike anyone at any time and the symptoms vary so widely.

For instance, can you imagine waking up one day unable to do the everyday things you would usually take for granted? Like not being able to see properly (or at all), you physically can’t get out of bed, can’t walk to the phone to call someone – anyone – or live a life without pain?

All of a sudden your world has changed.

By being part of this event, and because of your generous sponsorship, the funds we raise will allow people living with multiple sclerosis to access vital MS Support Services. Services such as MS Peer Support, connecting people who are newly diagnosed with those who have lived with multiple sclerosis for a number of years, or the MS Employment Support program keeping Aussies living with multiple sclerosis in the work force.

Thank you again for your support.

My Updates

Thursday 3rd Feb
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

This is the part where I tell you why I'm doing this. I've been encouraged to share my personal connection to MS, but in all honestly I don't have one. It's worthy cause, obviously - this money goes directly to supporting those living with MS, which is vital.

I'm using this challenge as a tool to help rebuild after what have been a couple of tremendously challenging years. My mental health deteriorated dramatically, and my physical health hit all-time lows with months and months of untreated asthma resulting in not being able to walk around the block without stopping, and at times not being able to go outside due to antibiotic side effects. I was constantly exhausted and depleted of all energy. I'm still pretty anxious, and am struggling to be present.

So, this year is about rebuilding. Work-life balance. Resilience. Presence. Routine. Strength and fitness. And, hopefully, joy.

This challenge is a mountain on the horizon that I'll need to train hard to have a chance of climbing - so I better get started!

If you're in a position to donate even a few dollaroonies, it'll really give me a beautiful kick up the bum, and help me stick to my rebuild plan! Not just training for this swim, but cold showers and ice baths, theatre and comedy live shows, creative writing exercises, and acting classes. (Not ambitious at all, right??)

Big love to you all, either way. Stay safe, and keep well. x

Thank you to my Sponsors
