Fundraising Frequently Asked Questions

If I sponsor someone, can I get a receipt so the donation becomes tax deductable?

add remove

Yes, you can get a receipt. Any donation of $2 and more is tax deductible (go to our donation page if you'd like to donate). A receipt will be issued to your preferred email address. Participants taking part can also request a receipt book for offline donations.

How do I bank my cash or cheque donations?

add remove

All cash or cheque donations that you receive in person can be deposited at your local Westpac Branch using the deposit slip in the back of your receipt book. Once you have banked your donations, go to your fundraising page using the 'Login' button at the top of the page. From here, enter the amount under offline donations. Don't forget to send back your receipt book to the address on the front of the book, or drop it off at the registration desk when you check in on event day. If there is no address on the receipt book, please contact us.

Do I have to return my receipt book?

add remove

Please remember that your receipt books (used or unused) must be returned to MS when you are finished fundraising, as we must account for each receipt in this book to the Australian Tax Office. Please post it back to the address on the front of the book or if you are finished fundraising by the date of the event, bring the book/s with you and drop off at the registration desk at the event when you check in for your MS Mega Challenge.

Using Facebook to Fundraise FAQs

How do I use Facebook to fundraise?

add remove

Facebook is a great place to encourage your friends, family and colleagues to support you! Always share your MS Mega Challenge Fundraising page to Facebook as opposed to setting up a Facebook fundraiser. This way you can be sure that all of your funds raised will be shown on your MS Mega Challenge Fundraising page.

Furthermore, we recommend you do not use the Facebook Donate button, as we cannot link any of the funds received through a Facebook fundraiser to your MS Mega Challenge Fundraising page.

What is the official charity name and number for the MS Mega Challenge?

add remove

Multiple Sclerosis Limited, ABN 66 004 942 287

If people have donated to me through a fundraiser I set up on Facebook, will Multiple Sclerosis Limited (MSL) still receive the funds?

add remove

Yes, if you have selected ‘Multiple Sclerosis Limited’ as your charity of choice, we’ll receive the funds, however, please note there will be a slight delay. Also, your donors will receive a receipt a from PayPal Giving Fund, not Multiple Sclerosis Limited.

Why aren’t the donations that I am receiving on my Facebook page showing up on my Fundraising page for the MS Mega Challenge?

add remove

Facebook donations are managed by a third party (PayPal Giving Fund), so we cannot sync these donations with your MS Mega Challenge fundraising page.

Therefore, the best way to receive donations from your friends, colleagues and family is by sharing your fundraising page to Facebook, as opposed to using the Facebook Donate button.

I have set up a fundraiser on Facebook, but I have selected the incorrect MS organisation. How can I ensure the money I raised supports the MS Mega Challenge fundraising for MSL?

If you have selected the incorrect MS organisation on Facebook, please contact us and have the following information ready: your full name, amount and the fundraising closure date. Contact us 1300 733 690 or email events@ms.org.au
